"We battle the madness of men intent on destroying our world." There is something in the male psyche that drives this. Having been in submarines, when they were all male crews, and in other areas, there is something to this that I can't quite articulate yet.

Yeah, I don't know if I have it fully fleshed out though. But there is something with men in particular, who are very willing to die for someone else's cause. I know because I've been there.

It feels like a higher calling, a self-sacrifice. The cliche you will hear is "being part of something bigger than yourself."

I wonder if it's self-loathing. Without this cause, without this purpose, I think many men are adrift. In fact, it is still one of the top reasons for men to join the military, "to find a purpose."

This is very much exploited for propaganda purposes and very difficult to discuss. I find these topics actually quite hard to rationally discuss without intense emotion and reactions and I usually don't expand on them, except in poetry. Which, I've found to be the only way to express these things. But I know there is sincerity behind your question.

Thank you for your honesty about this subject. I have never lived through a war. But I can imagine what you are saying. It must be a deeply emotional and individual experience for every soldier who survived battle. Not only physical but psychological.

Good! The poor and helpless children who are being bombed, killed, maimed, arrested, tortured, made homeless and intentionally starved daily need protection.
