"You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give."
The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran has been an inspiration to me for most of my life. It teaches a universal divine way of life.
Today I read something about giving and it brought back the beautiful teachings of this amazing philosopher.
I believe that we should give love, support, understanding, empathy and being there for those who need us.
"There are those who give little of the much which they have—and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome."
This right here breaks my heart. You see people on social media platforms making videos of themselves giving to the less fortunate. Announcing and bragging about sharing their bounty. I feel shame for their sakes. Deep shame, and sadness for the poor person being used for recognition.
"There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward."
You often say, “I would give, but only to the deserving.”
Who are we to decide who is deserving? Why should someone struggle in front of you and you feel they don't deserve anything you can give to make their lives easier?
"For in truth it is life that gives unto life—while you, who deem yourself a giver, are but a witness."
Powerful words! We are but witnesses.
"And he who has deserved to drink from the ocean of life deserves to fill his cup from your little stream."
Everything we have comes from God and should be shared with those who have nothing.
Namaste
That quote is everything. When one gives if oneself the doors open and the path is enlightened.
This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
