Two Women
Artwork by Max Ernst.
“There were always in me, two women at least, one woman desperate and bewildered, who felt she was drowning and another who would leap into a scene, as upon a stage, conceal her true emotions because they were weaknesses, helplessness, despair, and present to the world only a smile, an eagerness, curiosity, enthusiasm, interest.”
― Anais Nin
Two different selves existing as one One self bewildered by life Out of step with the rest Attempting the illusion of normalcy Presenting a mask of indifference A plastered smile of enthusiasm While drowning in madness Feigning eagerness to fit in While aching for solitude True emotions hidden under A façade of false cheer To placate the expectations Of the audience before the stage While engulfed with insanity

You feel it too. 🦋
Only 2? Ha! There are so many sides to us. We are incomplete without them all.
