Such wise words Rea. I do my meditation ‘on the move’ when I’m walking my dog, stopping to really listen and look at nature. Never sure if it counts…but it does quiet my mind!
I’m glad you’re focusing on the neutral side of thought and the positive side of thought.
I mostly focus on the negative side of thought, because it’s so powerful. Thought creates all ideology, and ideology creates the evil in the world.
Can you say more about positive thought? Once anxiety is addressed, positive thoughts can be introduced. Some use affirmations, etc. I wonder if you could share your thoughts on this.
I focus on the negative too often. Balance is key for me. When I still my mind my psyche becomes positive. Negative can't exist in a vacuum. Presence is also important to fuel positive thoughts. Awareness of the beauty around me creates positive thought. Meditation calms my overactive mind, before it runs away with me.
This strikes me as truth: Presence is important to fuel positive thoughts.
It sounds like you're saying presence is enough, is that right? I can get on board with that; I was just wondering if you believe in actively positive cognitive exercises or if eliminating the negative is enough.
What you said about presence evaporating the negative thoughts and presence having a air of positivity rings true as well, you made that very clear.
Yes, affirmations, mantra's, etc. People say positive things to themselves.
To me, that's a step beyond being present and letting go of thought, of allowing a more positive of thought to arrive.
Presence is great, and at some point you can start to introduce positive thoughts. I was asking if that's something you have an opinion about.
Do you think it's unnecessary? Do you think allowing positive thoughts is better than consciously programming them? I don't mean NLP, which I think is more about subconscious programming.
I love this! The line about how you can't think with hate and act with love. Powerful. I've got a mindfulness and meditation practice. It's unconventional, and it works for me. walking meditations are also beneficial Esther, below!~ Love, Virg

That counts, Esther! Nature is the great healer. 💞
This has prompted me to go and meditate :)
Glad to hear! 🤍🙏
Hi Rea,
I love this post. You are exactly right: our thoughts control our actions and our moods. I've done guided meditation, and it's been so helpful.
I started with guided meditation. It is very helpful. Thank you for reading and commenting, Beth.
My pleasure! Your Substack is wonderful.
Thank you, Beth! 🩷
Interesting notion to focus on thoughts. This resonated with me - uncontrolled notions create anxiety and negative actions.
I'm glad it resonated with you, Andrew.

Yes, I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Cognitive exercises? I don't understand what you mean. To exercise my brain function? Do you mean repeating positive mantras?

I woke up in a bit of a funk today, so this is timely :)

Thinking is the key part of everything we do, I love this post.
True that, Jybyky. Thank you.

Thank you, Virg! I read about your walking meditations.
Much love.
Beautiful. I love the description of meditation not just the space of stillness or silence but the space essential for love to form.
Well said!
